Hip Hop's Gordon Parks
Jamel Shabazz has been documenting the “Urban Life” for over 30 years. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he picked up his first camera at the age of 15 and proceeded to record the world around him. His most influential work chronicles the life and times of the hip hop generation in its early days (late-70s to early-80s). Shabazz was inspired by James Van Der Zee and Gordon Parks, two world-renowned African-American photographers.
