Jbro (Jon Mahone) and Tiger Lily (Ghislaine Jean-Mahone) make up this fiery husband-wife hip hop duo. RAS’ musical influences range from Ella Fitzgerald to The Fugees. The message behind their music and name, Riders Against the Storm, emerges from the societal dilemmas of our generation. In the tradition of artists like Bob Marley and John Lennon, RAS uses music to convey the need for resistance and spiritual awakening in a society that promotes rampant materialism and individualism over community-building and collectivity.
In September of 2008, RAS was officially selected as a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest: an international competition established in 1997. Their song, "Speak the Truth," was inspired by The Great Debaters film, released in the winter of 2007. Expect a new music project from RAS in the Spring of 2009.
Jbro and Tiger Lily are also co-producers/founders of the legendary In House Freestyle comedy crew: New England’s only all-black sketch comedy group.
